There’s something special about September and Apple. The company has always launched all its new Apple iPhones in September, and 2023 is no different. This year too, Apple plans to release its latest iPhone15 series in September.
Reportedly, the iPhone 15 series will have the Plus and Pro models in 2 sizes, 6.1 inch and 6.7 inches.
The 6.1 inch model will be the iPhone 15, while the 6.7 inch model will be the iPhone 15 Plus.
The other 2 models in this series will be the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Will Apple iPhone 15 Pro be the most expensive smartphone ever?

According to the influential tech analyst, Jeff Pu, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max will be one the most expensive iPhones that the company has released so far.
Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max models are expected to cost around $200 more than its predecessor, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max.
If rumors are to be believed, an iPhone 15 Pro Max with 128 GB will cost around $1,300, while the same model with 1TB will cost around a shocking $1,800!
The most important question is, will the high price combined with the worldwide inflation impact its sales?
Let us not forget that when Apple released the iPhone 14 series, there was a huge uproar on the price range, especially for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which had a starting price of $1,100.
But this did not stop the loyal iPhone fanbase from splurging on Apple’s flagship phone! Over the years, Apple has been widening the price gap between its Pro and the other models, as a part of its product positioning strategy.
Hence, it can be safely assumed that this rumoured price increase for its new launch, will not have an impact on the lower end models of the iPhone 15 series.
In fact, some critics have also been pointing out that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will only be a copy of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with its overlapping features of the Dynamic Island Design and the 48 megapixel camera.
Also, these models will continue to have the A16 bionic chip, thus negating any scope for a price increase in this segment.
So, what has Apple brought to the table this time that justifies such an increase in price?
iPhone 15 Pro Max Specifications and Exclusive Features

There are speculations that Apple has integrated revolutionary and exclusive features in its latest offering with the intention of going one-up over its rivals, Samsung and Google, who are expected to launch their Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Google Pixel 8, sometime in the later part of the year.
So, what are these exclusive features?
- The Apple iPhone 15 series will be the first models to have a titanium frame. This switch from stainless steel to titanium will make the models stronger and lightweight. The latest titanium chassis, rounded edges and the ultra thin bezels (smallest of all the smartphones) will make the iPhone 15 Pro Max stand out.
- The new periscopic optical zoom lens, which Apple has introduced for the very first time. The periscope lens is expected to offer a higher range of optical zoom and enhanced image quality, almost twice than what was available on the iPhone 14 Pro Max models. The variable zoom of the periscopic lens is expected to enable the user to switch the magnification levels easily. But this periscopic camera feature will be exclusive to the Pro Max users, as this will not be available even on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
- The next-gen 3nm Apple A17 bionic chip will be embedded in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max used the 5nm A16 chip. In addition to better CPU/GPU power and smart, efficient features, these A17 chipsets will make the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max series the fastest phones available in the market currently.
- Switching to a USB-C port for faster charging is another revolutionary feature of the iPhone 15 series. This was an expected modification because the European Union had decreed that USB-C has to be the common charging standards for all phones by December 2024.
- However, rumours are rife that Apple might insist on Made for iPhone USB-C accessories, which might create a conflict with the EU rules. Apparently, the EU has asked for a clarification from Apple regarding its USB-C plans. In addition to the USB-C port, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max may also get a Thunderbolt 3 port. Thunderbolt will ensure faster connectivity, while allowing for display output.
- While the iPhone 15 Pro Max may not have any solid-state buttons on it, there is a probability that the power and volume buttons may have been repositioned, and a new, customizable action / mute button being added. The action button is expected to be similar to the ones on the Apple Watch Ultra, which offers a range of features.
- Sources also report that there will be a moderate increase in the battery life and capacity of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro series vis-a-vis the iPhone 14 Pro series due to a bigger battery and better hardware and software modifications that have been built into it. The LiDAR sensor will also increase the efficiency of the battery life, aid in better photography and boost the performance of augmented reality apps.
- The other features include an upgraded, next-gen UWB chip for better performance, a new state-of-the-art image sensor which is expected to greatly enhance the photography modes and integration of the proximity sensor into the Dynamic Island area.
- The revolutionary feature of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – the Always-On setting – will be exclusively available only to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users and not on the lower variant models.
- The Wi-Fi upgrade on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also expected to provide a greater bandwidth. Significant changes will also be made in the iOS 17 software that will be available on all the iPhone 15 series models.
Which colour will it be this time?

Apple has always experimented with colour – offering iPhones in different colour palettes.
While the iPhone 11 Pro models came in gold, space gray, silver and midnight green, the iPhone 12 Pro models were silver, graphite, gold and pacific blue.
iPhone 13 Pro models came in graphite, gold, silver and sierra blue, their previous launch, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models were space black, silver, gold and deep purple in colour.
So, what will it be this time around?
Like all top brands, Apple has also used decoys while prototyping and testing in order to maintain the surprise element for its client base and stun the competitors. Earlier in the year, it was rumoured that the iPhone 15 Pro models may be crimson or green in colour.
However, since recently, there are speculations that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro will have a dark blue colour with gray undertones, which is expected to complement the titanium casing.
Another winner? Let’s wait and watch!
Reportedly, Apple has not only started manufacturing the iPhone 15 series but is also increasing the volume of production to overcome any shortages post launch.
This implies that the company is confident of another winner with its flagship product this year too.
But, will the steep price put away the consumers? Or will the product features justify the price?
Only time will tell.
